Small Business Investor Alliance

The Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA) is the association of senior investor professionals focused on the lower middle market whose members represent the entire private capital ecosystem. It is an alliance for professional fellowship, business opportunities, innovation, regulatory expertise, and market data.

SBIA's mission is to provide members:

  • Timely information on market and regulatory issues
  • Real advocacy power with federal regulators and on Capitol Hill
  • Access to exceptional networking opportunities
  • Informative programs with an emphasis on best practices for the industry

SBIA has been playing a pivotal role in promoting the growth and vitality of the industry for over 50 years. SBIA works on behalf of its members as a tireless advocate for sound policy to promote domestic investment and the growth of small businesses that fuel the American economy.

SBIA is the premier organization of lower middle market private equity funds and investors. Our members provide vital capital to small and medium-sized businesses nationwide, resulting in economic growth and job creation.


The Small Business Investor Alliance is growing rapidly. Today, we have over 250 geographically diverse and active members: fund managers, limited partners, BDCs, SBICs, institutional investors, and funds in formation.

Membership Requirements

SBIA membership is comprised of U.S. lower middle market private equity funds that make investments in small and medium-sized businesses, Limited Partners that make investments in those private equity funds, and a limited number of professional service providers.
